South Pacific Island Official Records COP26 Statement Knee-Deep in Water to Highlight Climate Change

The foreign minister for the South Pacific island of Tuvalu stood in knee-deep sea water as he filmed a video statement for the UN’s climate summit, known as COP26, to highlight the impact of climate change on the island nation.

Images released on November 5 show Foreign Minister Simon Kofe filming in water off the coast ahead of a COP26 side event on efforts to address climate-related mobility in the Pacific.

“The statement juxtaposes the COP26 setting with the real-life situations faced in Tuvalu due to the impacts of climate change and sea level rise,” the foreign ministry said in a statement. Credit: Tuvalu Ministry of Justice, Communication, and Foreign Affairs via Storyful
