Southampton have already caused Leeds United enough misery in recent weeks, culminating in a 1-0 Championship play-off final victory at Wembley Stadium to consign the Whites to another year in the second tier.

The Saints are now looking ahead to an immediate return to the Premier League and with that in mind, are keen to add reinforcements to their playing squad ahead of the new season. According to reports, one man who Russell Martin has identified as someone who can help strengthen the club's defence is Leeds United loan man Joe Rodon.

The Tottenham Hotspur player enjoyed an impressive season on loan at Elland Road, forming a formidable central defensive partnership with Ethan Ampadu. Leeds are keen to strike a deal with Spurs to keep hold of Rodon next season, with Tottenham willing to let the player leave.

However, Spurs are likely to want a transfer fee for Rodon rather than another loan deal, with figures of £15m quoted as a potential fee. That deal looks a little rich for Leeds right now, but Southampton would be prepared to pay it and are said to be keen on speaking to Tottenham and the player about a potential switch to the south coast.

Rodon has spoken fondly of his time at Leeds and had the Whites won promotion there was an expectation he would stay, however he has top flight aspirations and a chance to play in the Premier League would obviously appeal to the defender. The Welshman is set for a holiday and some time away to consider his options before reporting back to Tottenham for the start of pre-season training in July.
