Bravo TV star Thomas Ravenel has been arrested and charged with assault and battery in the second degree in South Carolina, according to jail records.

The Southern Charm star was arrested on Tuesday following allegations of sexual assault against him. Mr Ravenel’s attorney had previously denied the assault accusations against him.

“My client enjoys a certain degree of fame and unfortunately has become – unfairly – a target for an individual who has, in my opinion, dubious motivations,” his attorney said in a statement according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bravo has since confirmed that Mr Ravenel will not be returning as a cast member of Southern Charm.

Mr Ravenel had previously publicly said that he planned to make an exit from the series.

Police began investigating Mr Ravenel earlier this year after he was accused of sexual assault.

Local WCSC-TV reported that a judge had ordered Mr Ravenel to turn in his passport and stay in the state. He was given a personal recognisance bond and has reportedly been ordered to not have any contact with the unidentified victim in the case.
