Southwest Airlines Grounds Flights Across US Due to System Malfunctions

Southwest Airlines passengers across the United States faced long airport lines and suspended flights on June 14 and 15, with the airline reporting system issues resulting in network-wide flight disruptions.

According to an FAA advisory on June 15, all Southwest flights in the US airspace had been stopped due to “technology issues.”

Footage captured by Twitter user @paytons420, who said they took it at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, Arizona, shows a long line.

More than 1,500 Southwest flights were delayed on June 14, according to FlightAware, with 45 canceled. On June 15, as of the late afternoon, FlightAware reported more than 480 Southwest flights canceled and more than 1,200 delayed.
