SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on Tuesday morning, January 3, carrying 114 satellites into low-Earth orbit, the company said.
The launch dazzled onlookers in central Florida, including Orlando resident Dany Nhung, who captured this video of the rocket streaking through blue skies and separating from the payloads before returning to Earth.
The mission, called Transporter-6, was SpaceX’s “sixth dedicated smallsat ride-share mission,” meaning satellites from multiple countries or companies were being carried into orbit simultaneously.
The 114 payloads included “CubeSats, microsats, picosats, and orbital transfer vehicles carrying spacecraft to be deployed at a later time,” SpaceX said. Credit: Dany Nhung via Storyful
