Spandau Ballet have opened up about Tony Hadley's departure.

The frontman quit the band in July, leaving fans fearing the band would be forced to split for good.

However, remaining members Martin Kemp, Gary Kemp, Steve Norman and John Keeble appeared on Good Morning Britain today (September 13) to confirm that the show will go on.

Looking to the future, the group said Tony will never be welcome back and they are now looking to recruit his replacement.

Revealing how Tony broke the news that he was quitting, Gary said: "He told us two years ago when we were in Hong Kong finishing the last world tour that he didn't want to do it anymore, as far as he was concerned he just wanted to do his solo work.

"But Spandau Ballet is stronger than just one member."

Opening up to presenter Richard Arnold, Martin added: "It wasn't so much a shame for me that the band was going to split up at that point and lose Tony, it was a shame for the audience.

"And also, all the people that had put in the investment and the fans that have followed the band all those years."

The group went on to reveal that if Tony ever wanted to return to Spandau Ballet, he would not be welcome.

But they are looking to become a five-piece again and are currently looking for Tony's replacement.

John explained: "We are now looking to move on and use this as an opportunity to get someone better. Someone better than me!"

Back in July, Tony told fans he was quitting the band by announcing the decision on Twitter.

He wrote: "Due to circumstances beyond my control, it is with deep regret that I am required to state that I am no longer a member of the band Spandau Ballet and as such I will not be performing with the band in the future."

At the time, the group released a statement saying Tony left because he no longer wanted to work with them.

"Much to our frustration, Tony had made it clear in September 2016 that he didn't want to work with the band any more," they said on their official website.

"This has not changed... so we have now made the decision to move on as a band."

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am.
