Yahoo News Special 50p Brexit coin unveiled to mark Britain's departure from EU
A commemorative 50p coin will be released to mark Brexit.
Philip Hammond will announce the release of the coin in today’s budget.
According to The Sun, it will be available from March 29th, the day that Britain officially leaves the European Union.
It is expected to be inscribed with the phrase ‘Friendship With All Nations’, but the official designs have not yet been released. It will also be marked with the date of Brexit.
The commemorative coin has been approved by The Queen, as she is required to sign off any items displaying the image of her head.
A 50p was issued to celebrate the UK’s entry into the European Economic Community in 1973, and another was released in 1998 to mark the 25 year anniversary of the same event.
While the 50p is likely to please Leave supporters keen to promote Britain as a successful country outside of the EU, it has been criticised by pro-Remain politicians.

The Royal Mail faced criticism earlier this year after announcing that they have no plans to issue commemorative stamps to mark Brexit.
Boris Johnson led calls for a Brexit stamp. He said: “Leaving the European Union will be a monumental moment in British history, so let’s deliver a commemorative stamp.”
Michael Gove also supported the idea, saying: “Royal Mail marked Britain’s entry into the EU and it’s only right they mark the British people’s choice to leave.
“I’d welcome them commissioning Brexit stamps to celebrate this important moment in history.”

The official unveiling of the coin is expected to come during the Chancellor’s Budget this afternoon.
Philip Hammond is expected to loosen the purse strings following Theresa May’s announcement during the Conservative Party conference that austerity is ‘over’.
