Spectacular drone footage shows a pod of fin whales swimming with a calf near Dana Point, California.
Posting the footage on May 20, the company’s caption for the video excitedly notes that “Dana Point’s fin whale bonanza continues, featuring a mom and calf.”
Fin whales are “seen throughout the year off of Southern California,” the company added.
“Newborn calves are about 18 feet long, and weigh 4,000 to 6,000 pounds,” according to the National Marine Fisheries Service, also known as the NOAA Fisheries.
Fin whales are the second-largest whales in the world, after blue whales. The species generally reach up to 75 to 85 feet in length and weight between 40 to 80 tons. Credit: Capt. Dave’s Whale Watching via Storyful
