Speed bumps demand after new 20mph limit 'fails to slow drivers' in Stirchley
A campaign is underway to install speed bumps in Stirchley roads where the 20mph limit 'failed to slow down drivers'. Residents claim motorists constantly 'ignore' the speed limits on Dogpool Lane, Avenue Road, and Dads Lane.
Collisions are commonplace with cars damaged, they say. Half a dozen vehicles were damaged following a crash on the afternoon of October 14, on Dogpool Lane, near a GP and a mental health centre.
A man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer. Jennifer Hall, a student nurse associate at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said three cars, including her own and two belonging to friends, were written off during the incident.

She has set up a petition urging Birmingham City Council to consider speed bumps as a way of forcing drivers to reduce speed. So far, 160 people have given their support.
Miss Hall, 45, said: "This petition is important to me because I want to keep our community safe. If my car hadn't been parked outside my house, my son would have been killed, and my car would have gone through my front window. I want to make a change because the speed that they drive down my road is appalling.

She wrote on the petition: "We have a local school and plenty of children that play out, that are in danger of the irresponsible drivers that speed from one end of Dogpool Lane to the top of Avenue Road. A 20mph speed limit is selected for zones with high vehicle-pedestrian interaction.
"However, without physical impediments, like speed bumps, the mere signage of speed limits is often ignored. We need this change both to protect our properties and safeguard our community from preventable mishaps. Please sign this petition to urge our local authorities to install speed bumps on our local 20mph road.
Lauren Beech, who signed the petition, said: "People drive so incredibly dangerously in an area with the elderly, families, vulnerable people and a school. Accidents are regular and something needs to be done before we have a fatality."
C Dougan wrote: "The constant reckless driving at high speed is a death waiting to happen. Too many near misses to mention. Make changes now before there is a fatality."
Birmingham City Council has been contacted for comment.
