A weather warning for Leicestershire will come into force from tomorrow (Sunday, January 26) with “spells of heavy rain” forecast. The Met Office yellow warning for rain is in force from 8am.

The weather service said that forecast heavy rain may lead to “some local flooding” during Sunday and Monday. The rain is likely to affect central and southern England during Sunday morning with “heavy, thundery showers.”

The Met Office said that 10-20mm is forecast to fall “quite widely” with 30-50mm over high ground. It’s then “possible” a further spell of rain could develop during Sunday evening before then clearing into early Monday (January 27).

Rain in Leicester is forecast to be most likely from 2pm to 4pm tomorrow, with a higher than 90 per cent chance of rain across this period. A 90 per cent chance of rain is also forecast again at 11pm.

Due to recent heavy rain in January, this extra rainfall could lead to some “local surface water and river flooding”, the Met Office said. The weather warning is due to end at 6am on Monday.
