Spencer Matthews apologises for ‘wooden’ GMB appearance after viewers urge him ‘not to quit his day job’

Spencer Matthews has apologised to Good Morning Britain viewers after they woke up to his “wooden” presenting on Monday’s show.

The former Made in Chelsea star made his debut as entertainment reporter while show regular Richard Arnold is on holiday.

But viewers found his presenting far from entertaining as he served up a segment on Dolly Parton’s West End musical 9 to 5 as well as discussing Victoria Beckham’s London Fashion Week show.

They were quick to point out his seemingly long pauses and how obviously he was reading from a teleprompter, with one urging him not to give up his day job.

“#GMB you can't tell Spencer is reading from the autoque lol such a PRO,” mocked one viewer.

Another wrote: “Spencer doing entertainment news on #gmb is one of the most awkward and uncomfortable 5 mins I’ve seen for a while. #dontquityourdayjob.”

A third tweeted: “Spencer looks like a Rabbit caught in the headlights #gmb.”

Matthews addressed his stint on Instagram, telling fans he will “get better with time”.

“Such a huge amount of respect for people who regularly present live television – it’s a skill and it’s not easy,” he wrote alongside a picture of himself on the ITV show. “Had my first go this morning on @gmb and it’s safe to say that it didn’t go so well...

“Apologies for my lack of experience and wooden performance. I’ll loosen up and get better with time, hopefully!”

Matthews also touched on his son Theodore who he shares with wife Vogue Williams.

The pair welcomed their first child together in September, three months after tying the knot in a secret ceremony in Scotland.
