‘Spencer’ The Robot To Help Lost Airline Passengers Catch Their Flights

A friendly robot is due to start guiding passengers around one of Europe’s busiest airports.

‘Spencer’ will be helping out at Amsterdam’s Schiphol international airport by guiding fliers to their gates.

Built by researchers at Örebro University in Sweden, the affable cyborg will offer assistance to lost passengers in the massive transport hub, which is notoriously hard to navigate.

The robot is pre-loaded with maps and is also able to survey its surroundings by measuring the distance between various obstacles using laser beams.

KLM Airlines has donated a substantial amount to the project as a result of so many of its customers getting lost and missing their flights.

It is thought that the robot could be used to update passengers on flight delays in future, communicating in a range of languages.

A one-week trial run will begin on 30 November, with Spencer due to go into full-time testing in March 2016.
