The Spice Girls are living up to the mantra from ‘Viva Forever’ after a scary 24 hours left group member Mel B in hospital for emergency surgery.

Mel shared dramatic updates on social media in the early hours of Monday (December 10), after suffering “broken ribs” and a “severed right hand” moments before a scheduled book signing in New York City.

Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Mel C arrived at Mel B’s bedside to comfort her after what the singer’s friend Gary Madatyan described to People as multiple injuries sustained in a fall down a narrow staircase.

Mel also detailed the scary aftermath of her tumble, sharing an alarming photo of herself wearing a full arm cast while hospitalised in the early morning hours of Monday.

“Thankyou (sic) to all the wonderful nurses dr’s and my amazing surgeon for the care and expertise given to me here at the hospital I’ve been staying at,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Suffering 2 broken ribs a severed right hand needing emergancy care,to having had to have over a 3 hr surgery to repair the damage hence the purple sling,I’ve had to unfortunately cancel my book signing today in NY.”

She went on: “I appolagise [sic] to each and everyone one of you who bought there tickets to meet me today… My right arm/hand is all stitched up and I’m trying to keep still to heal my broken ribs, ohh the pain, but I’m in super safe hands with the care of everyone here at the hospital!!!!!”

Digital Spy has reached out to Mel’s representative for an update on her condition.

It has been a rough few weeks for the America’s Got Talent judge. In November, Mel revealed that she’d had the tyres on her car slashed only hours after the Spice Girls announced their reunion tour dates.

Best wishes to Mel on a speedy recovery!
