Spider-Man: Far From Home hasn't even hit theatres yet, but this is the MCU we're talking about, and so of course details of its follow-up are already being teased.

While the Homecoming sequel marks the end of Phase 3, it certainly doesn't for Tom Holland's version of Peter Parker. In fact, we've known for some time that the actor is booked for a trilogy of Marvel/Sony movies under the web-slinger banner.

This was (accidentally) confirmed at the end of Homecoming's press rounds when Holland revealed there is still room for Parker to grow in the next "two" movies. "There will be a Spider-Man 2 and 3," he told Allo Ciné. "Yeah, well now you know, sorry Marvel."

It's going to be quite the wait before any news about the threequel breaks out, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate what to expect in the wake of Far From Home's release. It's going to be an important puzzle piece in the MCU's future, after all.

To get those Spidey senses tingling, here's everything you need to know about Holland's third outing as the high-flying hero…

Spider-Man 3 release date: When's it out?

Filming hasn't even started yet, so we're a long way off from a release date. However, the regularity of the MCU's schedule means we can hazard an educated guess.

Since Homecoming was out in July 2017 and Far From Home drops in July 2019, we predict the third will make its way to theatres in July 2021. This could all change, so be sure to check in on this post for any updates.

Spider-Man 3 cast: Who's in it?

Holland, duh. The Marvel mainstay is firmly signed up for the Far From Home sequel, so you can count him in. Wonder if he'll have any more nifty suits to try out.

Obviously Far From Home hasn't even dropped yet so we can't know for sure, but it's likely the core cast will be joining him – including Zendaya as MJ, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Jacob Batalon as Ned and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan.

Then there's the question of Jake Gyllenhaal reprising his role as Mysterio. First reactions for the film have been hugely positive, praising the Hollywood heavyweight for his MCU debut. If he does show his face for a second round, the question remains if the anti-hero will return as Peter's ally or his enemy – time will tell.

Safe to say Robert Downey Jr won't show up in the third film (for obvious reasons), but with Iron Man in Homecoming and Samuel L Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury in Far From Home, it will be interesting to see which leading character will play Parker's father figure in the threequel.

You never know, maybe the tables will turn and Spidey will have a protégé of his own.

A couple of other wild cards director Jon Watts might choose to play with in the third film are Deadpool and Venom.

Ever since the House of Mouse confirmed the Merc's entry into the MCU as a result of the Fox-Disney merger, rumours have pointed towards a Deadpool/Spider-Man crossover – although it's unsure whether Ryan Reynolds' sweary anti-hero would be a good fit for Parker’s SFW sensibilities.

Same goes for Venom, who has a long-standing history with the Web-Head in the books. Hollywood rumours suggest Sony is keen to bring Tom Hardy's Symbiote-stricken Eddie Brock into the MCU.

Let's face it, the chances of this happening in Spider-Man 3 are slim, but in the Marvel Universe anything is technically possible. Especially now the Multiverse is a thing. Speaking of which...

Spider-Man 3 cast: What's it all about?

At this point, your guess is as good as ours. What we do know (or at least we think so) is that Far From Home is set to open up the Multiverse – which essentially opens up infinite possibilities for the MCU moving forward.

The plot itself sees Mysterio seemingly helping Spidey fight off the Elementals and, according to Holland, their appearance is Thanos' fault.

"Mysterio in this movie is actually my new best friend," he explained. "We team up together to fight these elemental creatures because when Thanos snapped his fingers, these creatures came through the dimensional rift."

This could all change when the film drops, of course. As for the threequel, we can only start to put the puzzle together once those pieces emerge.

Far From Home is set just minutes after the conclusion of Endgame, and without knowing the direction Phase 4 will take (who's gonna be doing the assembling), we can only wait to find out what’s in store for Spidey's future. Watch this space.
