Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland is set to play Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie.

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has nabbed Holland for the Shawn Levy-directed film, which is a prequel to the Naughty Dog video games for PlayStation.

The adaptation is reportedly inspired by a sequence in the third iteration of the video game, and will focus on the young thief Drake as he grows into a treasure hunter, also featuring his first encounter with the professional rogue Sullivan.

Holland's attachment apparently came about when Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman saw the latest cut of the Spider-Man film. Now that Holland is on board, Sony is looking for a scribe to rewrite the story of young Nathan Drake. The film's producers are Charles Roven, Avi Arad, and Alex Gartner.

Back in October, it was confirmed that the Uncharted movie was happening again – before previously attached star Mark Wahlberg left the adaptation stranded.

The idea for an Uncharted film has been floating around since 2009, but no projects have ever made it into production.

Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann previously argued that the characters' chemistry in any film version of the game would be integral to its success.

"If you don't get that right, I don't think the film's going to work," he said. "If you get that core right, there's a chance it could work."
