Spider-Man: Homecoming has been a hit for Marvel, with Tom Holland acing it as Peter Parker / Spider-Man. But the film could have ended on a slightly different note.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, two of the credited writers on the superhero blockbuster, chatted with Yahoo! Movies and revealed how they envisioned the ending.
"That scene with the press behind the door, that started off as a more clear opportunity for Peter to say to the world, 'I, Peter Parker, am Spider-Man'," Goldstein said. "And he decides not to do it and walks away.
"It's still that, but it had been set up that if he could just tell the world who he is, he would get all his problems solved and be loved by everyone."
Daley added: "What he realises is that there is a virtue in being a secret identity and how he kind of has the advantage in many ways over his other superhero buddies."
So basically, Peter wrestled with the idea of revealing his secret more. Interesting.
Marisa Tomei, who plays Aunt May, previously revealed that a meaty scene of her own sadly got cut. This empowering moment would have also helped shine a light on Peter's backstory.
"There was something going on in the neighbourhood, and there was a little girl in distress, and I saved her," she shared. "And Peter saw me save her, so you kind of saw that he got part of his ethics from her.
"Then I come home, and I don't even tell him that that's what happened, and of course, there's all this stuff that he's not telling me."
Spider-Man: Homecoming is in cinemas now.
