Spongebob's Super Bowl: Maroon 5's halftime show has a surprise cameo with 'Sweet Victory'

American band Maroon 5 treated fans to a spectacular half-time show performance, including a surprise appearance from Spongebob Squarepants, during Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta.

The rock-pop group were joined by rap artists Travis Scott and Big Boi during the interval of the Los Angeles Rams’ clash with the New England Patriots.

The prestigious half-time slot has been filled by some of the most iconic names in music, from Beyonce and Madonna to The Who and Bruce Springstein.

The Grammy-award winning group opened with 'Harder To Breathe' as part of a section dedicatd to their early material before Scott joined the party with a rendition of his hit 'Sicko Mode' to a backdrop of pyrotechnics, after a brief cameo from children's cartoon character Spongebob Squarepants.

Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine was then joined by Big Boi, formely of hip hop duo Outkast, as the band ran through more recent hits such as 'Moves Like Jagger' and 'Sugar', before finishing with a huge fireworks bonanza.

It was the second major musical performance of the night, after soul star Gladys Knight had belted out the American national anthem before kick-off.
