A flashmob which will invite people to engage in a mass spooning session will pop up at Tate Modern tonight.

For all those fancying a Friday night cuddle, human connection guru group Togetherness is inviting people to join them in the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall and lie down together for a full-body clinch.

The flashmob will be looking to activate and reveal artist Tania Bruguera’s new installation in the Turbine Hall, which features a massive photograph of a Syrian migrant concealed under a heat activated surface. The photograph can only be revealed using body contact.

The event has been inspired by ideas of strengthening relationships in the polarising aftermath of Brexit, and is timed to coincide with the eve of the People’s Vote March, which will take place on October 20.

Togetherness is an organisation that says it is “about enriching your relationships and improving the quality of contact with everyone in your life” and hopes the event will inspire feelings of “connection, relaxation and Togetherness.”

“Modern life seems to disconnects us from each other," said Togetherness co-founder Adam Wilder.

"Tania’s artwork asks us to connect with the human face of the migration crisis. Togetherness is a movement for deeper human connection in the everyday. This will be the first intervention to try and uncover the portrait.“

Togetherness’s Spooning Flashmob will take place at Tate Modern at 7pm on Friday October 19. For more information, head to facebook.com
