When will sport return? Restart dates for Premier League football, rugby, boxing, tennis, cricket and more

The sporting schedule has been thrown into disarray

Major sport is gradually planning its staggered return to our screens, as decision-makers seek safe ways to reboot events during the coronavirus pandemic.

Much of the sporting world was frozen in February and March in reaction to the Covid-19 outbreak, and while some major events like the Olympic Games and Euro 2020 were postponed for 12 months, some competitions have already cautiously restarted under strict regulations, like the Bundesliga, German football's top tier.

The Premier League will resume on 17 June in a bid to limit the financial damage of the pandemic and retain the sporting integrity of the competition. Spectators will not be allowed in stadiums but all of the remaining 92 games will be broadcast live on UK television.

A number of events are expected to continue as planned, albeit without fans at the venue, like Royal Ascot in June, while others like the Tour de France and the French Open have been moved to the autumn, as has the London Marathon.

The Formula One season has been drastically reduced, with several grands prix cancelled including Melbourne and Monaco, and 12 remaining dates running between 5 July and 29 November.

In the US, baseball and basketball are set for July with the return of the MLB, subject to successful salary negotiations, and the NBA. The new NFL season is scheduled to begin on 11 September.
