Sri Lankan MPs Elect Ranil Wickremesinghe as President

Sri Lankan lawmakers elected acting president Ranil Wickremesinghe as president on Wednesday, July 20, amid unrest in the country.

Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror reported Wickremesinghe received 134 votes from MPs, while opponent Dullas Alahapperume obtained 82 votes and Anura Kumara Dissanayake received three votes.
