Residents of Britain’s most patriotic estate were “buzzing” today after members of the England squad called to thank them for their support.

More than 300 St George’s flags have been put up on the Kirby Estate in Bermondsey , catching the attention of FA chiefs at England’s training camp in Repino.

On Saturday, Chris Dowse, one of three organisers of the display, received a video call from Liverpool players Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold in Russia.

Mr Dowse, 39, a Liverpool fan, said: “It felt like a dream — it still does. It’s incredible.”

In a video of the call uploaded by the FA, Henderson salutes fellow organiser Alan Putman, 48, who is dressed in a St George costume.

Mr Dowse said: “Jordan couldn’t stop laughing when he saw him.”

The Liverpool captain calls Mr Dowse a “top man” for arranging the flags.

Organiser Geraldine Howard, 52, said: “We were buzzing all night.”
