St Mary's Guildhall to host bumper series of festive events for families in December
One of the city's most famous heritage sites has fun-filled festive programmes with unique events for families to get involved in this Christmas. St Mary's Guildhall in the city centre has hands-on workshops, 'immersive' performances, and Tudor tours for a thrilling festive experience for all ages.
New for 2024 is the Christmas Tour and Tudors, which invites visitors on a guided journey through the Guildhall's 700-year-old history. Visitors will explore the seasonally decorated rooms and learn about Tudor feasts and festivities, which will run on December 11 and December 17 with hourly slots between 10am and 3pm.
There will be a Christmas Willow Weaving workshop on Tuesday, December 3, where guests can create their own bespoke Christmas wreaths and decorations. The workshop will be guided by an experience heritage crafts instructor, where visitors will also get to enjoy a festive Christmas lunch.

For those looking for a 'twist' on tradition, you can join the Christmas Murder Mystery event on Thursday, December 5 and Thursday, December 19. The murder mystery will be set in the year 1895, where the interactive experience includes a three-course meal and invites guests to solve a thrilling 'whodunit' in the setting of the Guildhall.
If you want an evening celebration, organisers say St Mary's Guildhall will host the Great Hall Christmas party on Friday, December 13. The party promises to be an 'unforgettable' experience. The evening begins with canapés and a welcome drink, followed by a three-course meal, each course paired with wine.
The festive season wouldn't be complete without a visit from Father Christmas. From November 30 until December 23, families can enjoy storytelling sessions with Father Christmas each Saturday, gingerbread decorating, and children's crafts.
Other events include Mulled Wine and Christmas Tours on Sundays in December, Scrooge's Spirit daytime shows on December 4 and 12, and Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol The One-Man Show on the evening of December 20 and 21.
Throughout December, St Mary's Guildhall will be decorated to celebrate the festivities, creating a magical setting for Christmas. Visitors can explore the historical rooms, embark on a festive trail to uncover clues about Christmas history and enjoy seasonal afternoon teas or lunches in the Tales of Tea restaurant.
