St Mirren legend Tony Fitzpatrick receives prestigious Fellowship award

St Mirren legend Tony Fitzpatrick has received a Fellowship from West College Scotland.

The achievement for the former Buddies player, manager and CEO has been described as “incredible”. Tony, a current ambassador for Saints, received the prestigious award for his five decades of work with the Paisley club and the community.

Speaking about the award, Tony said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed to receive such an accolade from West College Scotland and I am truly humbled.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Liz Connelly, principal and chief executive of West College Scotland; Billy Kinnear, head of design and media; Debbie Dennett, design lecturer; and the rest of the wonderful staff for bestowing me with this amazing award.

“West College Scotland has played a huge part in helping us grow Legacy Comps. It was a real pleasure to receive my award along with Paul Dickson from Mill Magazine who is a fantastic person and does so much for the community.

“Huge congratulations to all the students who also received their own personal awards and the very best of luck in the next chapter of their journey.”

And Tony has continued that community spirit with his current project Legacy Comps – a lottery-type venture which awards significant sums to good causes across Renfrewshire. People have had a chance to win cars, luxury goods and huge prize sums through Fitpatrick’s company.

The money that goes into the organisation has been used to help charities such as MND Scotland, Ray’s of Hope and St Vincent’s Hospice, as well as many schools and community groups across Renfrewshire.

Speaking earlier this year on the impact he has had on people, Tony said: “One of our main objectives at Legacy Comps is to help youth sports clubs, charities, and general good causes.

“As our logo reads, we give from the heart and bring sunshine into people’s lives. This would not be possible without the support of our amazing community. Together, we really are creating a legacy.”
