St Mirren Women came from behind to dump Airdrie 3-1 last Sunday as the Paisley team continued their title charge.

Eilidh Drain, Nikki Lavery and Kirsten Treanor got on the scoresheet and gaffer Kate Cooper hailed her side for digging in and refusing to panic when moments went against them.

It is now the ninth consecutive week Saints have been at the top of the SWF League One table as well as being on an impressive eight-game unbeaten streak which has returned seven wins and one draw.

Cooper praised Airdrie’s goalkeeper, Lauren Forsyth, for her incredible display against the Buddies as she said the North Lanarkshire outfit made it hard for her side.

“I thought we played really well and dominated the game but we had to dig in,” she told the Paisley Daily Express. “Airdrie kept digging in and, as expected, they made it hard for us.

“Their goalkeeper was the best player of the match as she was outstanding. We went a goal behind and we didn’t panic. We dug in to get the result we needed and that is the belief this team have.

“Overall, we did really well and it was another vital three points in the bag for us.

“They have been working hard and have been excellent this season. We have got to the point where we want to keep the momentum up and it is good right now. It is enjoyable to be around, I have to say, on the training ground and matchdays.”

If being at the top of the table wasn’t enough recognition for Saints at the minute, it was bolstered further by two players being included in the league’s 'Team of the Month’'.

Lavery and Hannah Coyle were voted in by their fellow players and Cooper believes that shows how well her team are playing just now.

She added: “It is relative to how we have played. The thing with that is the other teams have voted for them, it is not coming from in-house.

“So, I think that is a huge recognition by the players who have played against them and how tough it has been to do so. It is great to have both of them in and it is well deserved.”

Next up for Saints is a crucial match before the winter break against second-placed Armadale Thistle who are only a point behind the Buddies.

In the first match between the two sides this season, Cooper’s side came out on top in an epic 6-4 game. The game will take place on Sunday, December 1 before the winter break.
