Staff shortages could last up to two years, says CBI

The Confederation of British Industry has warned the UK’s labour crisis could last 2 years with staff shortages hitting firms as they battle to recover from the Covid pandemic. The CBI is urging the government to adopt more flexible policy on immigration to help tackle the problem. Although officials have suggested firms hire and train UK workers to fill the gaps. Staff shortages are disrupting many businesses from getting stock to their customers including Ikea, Coca-Cola, Wetherspoons, Nandos and Costa. A lack of lorry drivers has also affected the supply of goods industries across the country. The CBI has preditcted that worker shortages will not be helped by the government’s job retention scheme ending in September. .
