Stalker bombarded ex-colleagues with gifts in bizarre plot to 'make their friendship work'

A stalker showered his ex-colleagues with a series of expensive gifts including a £750 Lego set in a bizarre bid to be their friend.

Ivan Ganchev left his IT job at Scottish Power but then hounded his former workmates, a man and woman, telling them they wouldn’t “know the lengths I will go to make this friendship work”.

The 29-year-old sent the limited edition Lego to a man at work. He also mailed house keys to both victims to live in his flat after he left Glasgow.

Ganchev continued to ignore pleas to stop contact and instead wired £750 to their accounts by bank transfer. He later paid for a woman to go on a trip to Fuerteventura and claimed he would foot the bill for a holiday for the man.

The pair went to the police after Ganchev told the woman he would wait for her on her route to work and attended the man's home.

First offender Ganchev pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week to stalking between April and July 2023. The court heard that Ganchev, of Hamilton, initially sent the woman flowers to her door and she told the man.

The pair contacted Ganchev on WhatsApp to tell him that their friendship was over. However, he continued contact. Kevin Corr, defending, said his client received a card from the man and woman after he left Scottish Power encouraging him to stay in touch which he took at “face value”.

Sheriff Simone Sweeney deferred sentence for six months. A two-year order was granted banning Ganchev’s contact with his victims.
