A star-studded line-up has been promised for a new convention taking place in Plymouth this weekend – including celebrities who found fame in Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, Star Wars and more.

The Plymouth Comic Con is taking place on Sunday, October 27, with celebrity guests including Robert Llewellyn – who played Kryten in Red Dwarf – and the sixth Doctor Who, Colin Baker.

The event at Marjon Sports Centre is also promised to be a great day for sci-fi collectors and fans, with displays and props, as well as traders offering collectibles.

Expect to see plenty of out of this world costumes too, with guests from Star Wars and ‘cosplayers’ dressing up in character. Visitors are invited to dress up themselves, with prizes for the best cosplay costumes on offer.

Tickets cost from just £2, and it takes place from 10am-5pm. The event is the first Comic Con for the business which also runs Plymouth’s Lego show.

It is the brainchild of George Burrows, who studied in Plymouth and was keen to stage his company’s first Comic Con back here.

He told The Herald: “The company has been going for around five years based in Reading and London way, and last year we took the step to grow the business nationally and we are in pretty much every major city in the UK.

“It’s been quite a journey. In the US, Comic Cons are much larger affairs, but in the UK they have certainly picked up and we like to focus on that family feel, and collectors.

“We keep prices cheap so that people can have a really fun day out while not breaking the bank, which is obviously important to me as a director and organiser, but also as someone who has enjoyed these events in the past.”

He added: “This is our first Plymouth convention that I’ve done under this company, so obviously it’s an inaugural event for us.

“We’ve got some good names in there like Robert Llewellyn from Red Dwarf, Colin Baker from Doctor Who – so there are some good celebrity faces – and there are some Star Wars folk in there as well.

“For the first show we’ve really gone for it.”
