The Star Trek: Discovery cast have been pictured together for the first time, and it's getting us even more excited for the new series.

OK, so the ensemble are not in costume, and the snap doesn't quite include the full cast, but the picture of the stars having a meal together will have to do for now.

In the shot – uploaded to star Chris Obi's Instagram – from left-to-right, we say hello to Jason Isaacs (Discovery's Captain Lorca), Michelle Yeoh (Shenzhou's Captain Georgiou) and Obi (Klingon T'Kuvma).

Next to him is the show's lead Sonequa Martin-Green (Lieutenant Commander Rainsford, the first officer of the Discovery), her husband, who is not on the show, Doug Jones (an alien science officer on Discovery), James Frain (Spock's father Sarek) and Shazad Latif (Kol, who is a commanding Klingon officer).

However, not everyone is there, with fellow cast members such as Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy and Sam Vartholomeos noticeably absent.

At least it's enough to mull over until the show's release, which is likely to be late summer or early autumn.

Discovery is set around a decade before the events of the original series, though is set to reference many of its most iconic aspects, with the inclusion of Klingons and Spock's father Sarek.

Star Trek: Discovery will air on CBS in the US and Netflix in the UK.
