Warning: Contains spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery season 1, episode 11 'The Wolf Inside'.

This week's episode of Star Trek: Discovery FINALLY confirmed the big fan theory that Ash Tyler is actually the Klingon Voq.

As predicted, Voq had his appearance modified and his psychology tampered with, giving him something of a new personality overlay.

Following the big reveal that everyone totally expected, Shazad Latif told IGN that he believes there was once a real Ash Tyler, adding: "Yeah, I think L'Rell used a captured soldier.

"She took this guy and then used his body and his brain and his memories, with all the skill she has as a conscious-transferring scientist. It's amazing."

Latif also said that keeping the whole thing secret "was the hardest thing I've ever had to do" – not least because it was him playing both Ash and Voq.

Of course, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) also learnt the truth about Ash in 'The Wolf Inside' – and as she's in love with him, it was all rather sad.

"It was an amazingly tough scene to shoot," said Latif. "It was sad, beginning different takes where we're crying our eyes out, and we're not crying, more of the voice of Voq, more changing.

"Just so many different angles you could take it in, and it was one of those days you go home, you go, I need a drink. It was that kind of day."

Star Trek: Discovery airs on CBS in the US and Netflix in the UK.
