Star Trek: Discovery finds its captain

It’s official – Jason Isaacs is the new Star Trek captain.

It’s been coming for a long time, but now we know who Star Trek: Discovery’s new captain will be – none other than Harry Potter star, Jason Isaacs.

“Jason Isaacs is the latest cast member to come aboard CBS All Access’ upcoming series ‘Star Trek: Discovery’,” confirmed Variety. “Isaacs will play Captain Lorca, the captain of the Starship Discovery.”

Hot off the hells of his appearance in Netflix’s hit sci-fi show The OA, it looks as though Isaacs will be looking to shed his bad guy image… this time, likely appearing as the stoic Brit among a mostly-American spacefaring crew.

Unfortunately, little is known about Captain Lorca at this time.

Of course, Jason Isaacs is currently most high-profile actor to appear in the upcoming Star Trek series. He’ll be joined by The Walking Dead actress Sonequa Martin-Green who stars as lieutenant commander, as well as James Frain as Spock’s father Sarek, Anthony Rapp as a space fungus expert, and Michelle Yeoh as the captain of the Starship Shenzhou.

“Other cast members include Starfleet officers, played by Terry Serpico as Admiral Anderson, a high-ranking official of Starfleet; Maulik Pancholy as Dr. Nambue, the chief medical officer of the Starship Shenzhou; and Sam Vartholomeos as Ensign Connor, a junior officer in Starfleet Academy assigned to the Starship Shenzhou.”

When will we finally see Star Trek: Discovery head to our screens?

Well, it was originally due to beam down in January 2017… but has since been delayed, and is now likely to debut during the summer or early autumn. And after losing showrunner Brian Fuller, it looks as though this is the good news Star Trek: Discovery needs.

And I can’t wait to find out how he stacks up against Kirk and Picard.
