Star Trek: Discovery's Shazad Latif and The Fall's Valene Kane star in the first trailer for Profile, a new thriller which plays out entirely on a computer screen.

The movie, from director Timur Bekmambetov, follows undercover British journalist Amy (Kane) in her quest to bait and expose a terrorist recruiter (Latif) through social media, while trying not to be sucked in by her recruiter and lured into becoming a militant extremist herself.

It's inspired by a true story and based on the newly-named Anna Érelle's 2015 non-fiction novel In the Skin of a Jihadist. Érelle is the identity of the real French journalist behind the story, as she's currently under police protection.

Profile, which premiered at festivals in 2018, is yet to get a UK release, but will finally be out in cinemas in the US on May 18.

Black Lightning's Christine Adams and The Limehouse Golem's Morgan Watkins also star in the film.

Bekmambetov wrote the script alongside Britt Poulson (Them That Follow) and Olga Kharina.

Profile is the latest film from the Screenlife genre, where the action takes place entirely on the screen of a computer or smartphone. Bekmambetov helped pioneer this style of movie with 2014 horror Unfriended, which he produced. The film made over $64 million at the global box office on a budget of $1 million.

Bekmambetov also produced 2018's mystery thriller Searching, starring Harold & Kumar's John Cho and Will & Grace's Debra Messing.
