Star Trek: Picard trailer sees the return of Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc

A first look at Star Trek: Picard sees the return of Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard.

The teaser suggests the series will reveal a major piece of the character’s history, as we see him now-retired in an idyllic vineyard, while a voiceover hints at past disaster.

“15 years ago today, you led us out of the darkness,” the voice says. “You commanded the greatest rescue armada in history. Then... the unimaginable. What did that cost you? Your faith? Your faith in us? Your faith in yourself? Tell us, why did you leave Starfleet, Admiral?”

Stewart played Picard on Star Trek: Next Generation, which ran from 1987 to 1994.

Alex Kurtzman, an executive on the Star Trek franchise, revealed that he was nearly brought to tears by Stewart’s reading of the show’s script.

“I had an amazing experience yesterday. I sat at Patrick’s kitchen table and I heard him read the first episode and I almost cried,” he said. “It was quite something. He’s at an amazing place in his life. He’s so excited. It’s going to be a very different show from Discovery.”

“The only way this universe, I think, works correctly is if each show is really different and speaks to a different part of Star Trek.”

Star Trek: Picard will debut on CBS: All Access in the US and Amazon Prime internationally at some point this year.
