Yesterday (August 14) it was announced that 10 Things I Hate About You star Ethan Peck will be taking on the role of Spock in the very good Star Trek: Discovery.

The part of the half-human, half-Vulcan is an iconic one, but Peck has got the seal of approval from the family of the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy.

The actor posted a picture of him posing with the family on Twitter, all doing the classic Vulcan salute:

Peck wrote: "Thanks to the Nimoy family for your open arms, warm welcome, smiling curiosity and support, for making me feel worthy, as I embrace and take into my heart the iconic half alien we know as Mr Spock.

"It is an incomparable honour."

The upcoming second season will pick up directly after the cliffhanger from the season one finale, where the starship Discovery came into contact with the Enterprise.

Spock, who is the half-brother of lead character Michael Burnham, has been missing for a while, so it looks like we've got a search for Spock to look forward to.

Star Trek: Discovery will premiere its second season on CBS All Access in the US in January 2019 and Netflix internationally, including the UK.
