Star-tue Of Liberty: New York Landmark Spotted In Cosmic Nebula

You may be fooled for thinking you’ve just seen a flying Statue of Liberty in outer space - because that’s what this collection of stars looks like.

The doppelgänger of the iconic New York landmark was spotted by amateur stargazer Terry Robinson while staring into space from his home in Melbourne, Australia.

The Canadian took a stunning image of the nebula, located in the constellation Cariana, using a 10-year-old telescope that he built himself.

And he noticed the Statue of Liberty shape in the shot, that was captured over 28 exposures at 1,800 seconds each.

Terry revealed: “The Statue of Liberty picture has some interesting qualities.

"When I started to get some data, I was pleased with the resulting image.

“It was quite a striking and different and had all the qualities that I love with black and white photography.”

The 53-year-old, who moved to Australia to complete a post-graduate degree, said his telescopic photos were a way to “travel the cosmos”.

He added of his New York discovery: "The Statue of Liberty image was taken through a narrowband filter…

"Each exposure used in the Statue of Liberty image are 30 min long, and the more you have, the better the result.”

Maybe it actually is the Statue of Liberty in a parallel universe - did no one think of that?!
