The big mysteries that Star Wars has lined up in its sequel trilogy to date are set to be resolved in the upcoming Episode 9 (we hope), which means the actors can finally let go of all those plot secrets they've been keeping.

That will be a relief for Adam Driver, who plays complex villain Kylo Ren / Ben Solo, who recently shared that the films are "building towards" one key piece of information that he's been holding onto for a long time.

"With Star Wars, I had one piece of information of where it was all going, and that’s where it has been in my head for a long time, and things were building towards that," he told Deadline.

"It feels very theatrical, if anything."

The actor was comparing working on the film series to his role as former alcoholic Adam Sackler on HBO comedy Girls, explaining that, in contrast to Star Wars, he didn't know where his character would end up in Girls.

"It’s been my second time doing something where it's lasted six years," he said. "I had this experience once with Girls, where it was six or seven years from the moment we shot the pilot to the very last thing.

"With Girls, there wasn’t really an end in sight, so it was fun to develop it as I went, and to think about where it was all going."

Star Wars Episode 9 will finally be with us in December this year, completing the Skywalker saga, and the cast have revealed that the final film in this trilogy will feel a little "looser", as the actors have been improvising on set.

"The way they've been shooting it right now is looser than it's been for the last two times," Oscar Isaac, who plays Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, said. "It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, 'Oh, we can try things'.

"It's a testament to JJ [Abrams] coming back and feeling confident. There's less pressure for it to be right. We just want to make a good movie and have a really good time while doing it."

Star Wars: Episode IX will be released in the UK on December 19, 2019 and in the US on December 20, 2019.
