Star Wars have announced a brand new animation series starring Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie.

Disney Channel has announced anime-inspired Star Wars: Resistance which is set to follow-up to the recently concluded Star Wars: Rebels.

The show will focus on the events leading up to The Force Awakens, centring pilot Kazuda Xiono.

Xiono is expected to be recruited to spy on the growing First Order.

The latest animation instalment has reportedly been inspired by create Dave Filoni’s interest in WW2 aircraft and fighter pilots.

Stars expected to make vocal features include Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma.

Other voice actors expected to star include Saturday Night Live’s Bobby Moynihan, EastEnders’ Suzie McGrath and Avatar’s Scott Lawrence.

The programme is expected to tell the stories in between the major franchise films, offering untold looks at famous events in the Star Wars universe.

A transmission date is yet to be released.
