Star Wars: Boba Fett spin-off movie announced with Logan director James Mangold attached

Just as Solo: A Star Wars Story reaches cinemas, word has reached the Hollywood trade press of a spin-off movie about everyone’s favourite bounty hunter, Boba Fett.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Mangold – who helmed last year's Logan – will write and direct the movie, with Simon Kinberg (X-Men) serving as co-producer and co-writer. Kathleen Kennedy will also produce.

Of course, this is not the first time fans have been promised a Boba Fett movie. Many moons ago, LucasFilm announced that Fantastic Four‘s Josh Trank would direct a movie based on the iconic character, eventually being dropped less than a year later.

Details regarding the movie's plot are being kept under wraps, though the character's origin story was previously told by George Lucas in the prequels.

Fett became a fan favourite thanks to a fleeting appearance in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, having a total of four lines and a scream across the two movies. The character first appeared in the highly-criticised Star Wars Holiday Special.

There have been two Star Wars Anthology movies so far, the first being Rogue One, telling the story behind how the rebellion managed to get the Death Star plans. The second, Solo, tells the origins story of the scruffy nerf herder, the movie featuring many cameos and surprise appearances.
