After what feels like years of waiting, our first look at the Star Wars universe on the small screen has finally arrived. Yes, The Mandalorian's official trailer is here at last.

The clip, which premiered at D23 Expo on Friday (August 23), shows a galaxy in between The Empire's reign and the rise of The First Order, where a lone bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal) battles rogue troopers and IG droids to collect on his debts.

Blasters and violence galore leads up to Werner Herzog's mysterious character joking: "Bounty hunting is a complicated profession."

Just yesterday, creator Jon Favreau promised fans a glimpse into the "darker, freakier side of Star Wars", and now we can see exactly what he means.

The Rise of Skywalker, who?

Not only that, but we also got a brand new – and very stylish – poster too:

The Mandalorian, which is set five years after the events of The Return of the Jedi, follows "a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic".

In Star Wars canon, Mandalorians were a race of people recognisable for their iconic armour, as worn by Boba Fett and Jango Fett.

Although fans have not seen Pedro Pascal's Mandalorian in Star Wars movies (yet, anyway), The Mandalorian is set to include plenty of references and connections to the original trilogy.

Talking about his inspiration for the Disney+ series, Jon Favreau recently explained: "I'm trying to evoke the aesthetics of not just the original trilogy [and] not just the first film, but the first act of the first film.

"What was it like on Tatooine? What was going on in that cantina? That has fascinated me since I was a child, and I love the idea of the darker, freakier side of Star Wars, the Mad Max aspect of Star Wars."

And now we do, too.

The Mandalorian will drop on November 12, the day Disney+ launches.
