Star Wars: The Force Awakens Premiere Date Set

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will have its world premiere in Los Angeles on 14 December, it has been announced.

As with the highly anticipated film, little is known about the event itself but it is likely to be one of the biggest red carpet events of the year.

The Hollywood Reporter said it is set to be one of the first times the Disney and LucasFilm movie has been unveiled to anyone not involved in JJ Abrams' project.

It could also be the first time the whole cast is seen together, along with the iconic Stormtroopers and Ewoks.

Some of Episode VII's stars attended Comic-Con in the summer, including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

The cast is also made up of a number of British actors such as Gwendoline Christie, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley and a London premiere is expected to also be announced.

The original Star Wars, now subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope, had its premiere at Hollywood's Chinese Theatre in 1977.

French audiences will get to see it first on 16 December.
