The ladies of the Star Wars universe far, far away come together for an extended look at animated series Forces of Destiny.

The forthcoming animated heroes celebrate the pioneering female characters at the heart of Star Wars lore, from the original trilogy's General Leia all the way up to Rogue One's Jyn Erso and The Force Awakens' Rey.

Each of these 2-3 minute short films will feature the likes of Felicity Jones, Daisy Ridley and Lupita Nyong'o voicing their characters from the movies on all-new adventures.

Forces of Destiny also delves into characters from spin-off media, including The Clone Wars' Jedi warrior Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein) and Rebel pilot Hera Syndulla (Vanessa Marshall) from Star Wars Rebels.

In the exciting clip above, we see each of these heroes in action over the mystic Maz Kanata's rallying cry: "The choices we make, the actions we take shape us into forces of destiny."

When the project was announced earlier this year, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said: "Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia's heroism, Rey's courage, or Ahsoka's tenacity.

"We're thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are.

"It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars."

Star Wars Forces of Destiny premieres on Disney's YouTube channel beginning on Monday (July 3).
