Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Rian Johnson dedicates premiere to Carrie Fisher

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has almost reached cinemas, giving fans of the Skywalker saga cause to celebrate.

However, there’s also some sadness with the release. Ryan Johson’s blockbuster marks the last on-screen appearance by Carrie Fisher as the beloved character Princess/General Leia.

“I want to dedicate tonight to Carrie,” the director said introducing the movie at the Los Angeles premiere, “who is up there right now flipping me the bird, saying ‘Damn it Rian, don’t you dare make this night a solemn tribute. So let’s all have a blast tonight for Carrie.”

Speaking to Reuters on the red carpet, Johnson spoke about the actor, saying: “Once the audience sees her performance in this movie, she’s going to be there in all our hearts. It’s bizarre not having her here tonight. She would be the life of the party.”

Since the Los Angeles premiere, journalists in attendance have starting posted reviews online, the reception being almost unanimously glowing.

The Last Jedi reaches UK cinemas 14 December.
