Star Wars Resistance - New animated TV series will feature voices of Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie

Star Wars fans will be seeing Poe Dameron again a lot sooner than they previously thought – with Captain Phasma even making a return to the universe.

Disney has announced their newest animated TV series Star Wars Resistance, an anime-inspired series that takes place right before The Force Awakens.

It will centre on new character Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.

Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie will return to voice Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma respectively; plus, wherever Poe goes, expect to see BB-8 with him.

The series was created by renowned Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni, who is also behind the likes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me.”

"There's a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”

Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco, Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Bobby Moynihan, Jim Rash, and Rachel Butera will also lend their voices to the project.

Star Wars: Resistance will premiere on Disney XD in the UK, later this year.
