Earlier this month, Starbucks launched its newly designed Christmas cups.

Instead of traditional red, the coffee giant decided to introduce playful, colourful doodles of everything from Christmas trees to presents.

What makes your season special is what we want to know. Decorate your cup – and help the spirit grow. #GiveGood

But Starbucks has faced controversy for the 25th anniversary design, as an illustration of two hands holding each other is also featured on the cups.

It is believed that the hands belong to a lesbian couple who also feature in Starbucks’ festive advertisement.

And as a consequence, homophobic customers have decided to boycott Starbucks due to its supposed ‘gay agenda’.

The coffee chain has yet to comment on the new design of the Christmas cups but in a press release, Starbucks illustrator Jordan Kay revealed that the new design aims “to bring our customers an experience that inspires the spirit of the season, and we will continue to embrace and welcome customers from all backgrounds and religions in our stores around the world.”
