Stark Edinburgh image captures demolition progress at former Ocean Terminal Debenhams
An eerie new image of the former Edinburgh Debenhams store at Ocean Terminal has shown it nearly demolished.
In May we reported how construction workers had begun bulldozing the site to make way for a huge new development comprising hundreds of homes and new shops nearby.
Part of the former multi-storey car park has been completely demolished with a small section of the former Debenhams store remaining before work on 500 new homes can begin.

The regeneration project at Ocean Terminal is set to breathe new life into the area with additional shops and pedestrian areas as well as the benefit of the tram extension taking locals from the city centre and further afield directly to the centre.
We previously reported how plans were initially submitted in November 2022 with a slight change bringing the initial number of units on the site down from 580 to 531 - primarily covering the northern most multi-storey car park and former Debenhams unit at the centre.

Of the 531 units, 135 are to be affordable and the remaining 396 will be built to rent. Nine commercial units will consume over 1,000 sqm of floor space split between class 1A and class 3 uses.
Space has also been included for car parking, cycle storage and EV charging points. A paddle tennis court playground and a new pedestrian street linking Ocean Drive directly with the Royal Yacht Britannia has also been proposed.
