Starmer 'astonished' that PM hasn't visited flood-hit areas

Sir Keir Starmer says he is "astonished" that the prime minister has not visited the flood-hit regions of the UK.

The Labour leadership candidate said that Boris Johnson's decision not to hold Cobra meetings over the recent floods showed a "shocking absence of duty by the prime minister."

Starmer's latest comments echo the tweets made last week, where he wrote: "The recent flooding is a stark reminder that the Government is not doing enough to get to grips with the climate crisis.

"Ministers should be taking a lead on this situation, not ducking their responsibilities."
