Which Stars Earn Most From Beyond The Grave?

Forbes has released its list of the dead celebrities who have earned the most in the last year.

They are:

1. Michael Jackson: $115m (£75m)

Died in 2009 aged 50.

The singer tops the list for a third year in a row.

His estate continues to make money from music sales, the Vegas Cirque due Soleil show Michael Jackson One, the Mijac Music catalogue and Sony/ATV.

But this year's figure is a drop from the $140m he made last year.

2. Elvis Presley: $55m (£35.8m)

Died in 1977 from a heart attack aged 42.

The King of Rock makes more money than many living stars from Graceland tickets.

In August, Elvis Presley Forever became his 53rd Top 40 album.

3. Charles Schulz: $40m (£26m)

Died in 2000 aged 77.

The Peanuts creator is making money from beyond the grave through licensing revenue from the comic.

Charlie Brown and friends are hitting the big screen in November in The Peanuts Movie.

4. Bob Marley: $21m (£13.7m)

Died from cancer in 1981 aged 36.

The reggae star's estate is still making money from his Marley Beverage Company and House of Marley audio and lifestyle products.

5. Elizabeth Taylor: $20m (£13m)

Died from heart failure in 2011 aged 79.

Taylor's hugely successful perfume White Diamonds still continues to sell well even after 24 years.

6. Marilyn Monroe: $17m (£11m)

Died from an overdose in 1962 aged 36.

The Some Like It Hot star remains a Hollywood icon.

The Authentic Brand Group bought the rights to her brand in 2011 and there is now a clothing label and lingerie line.

7. John Lennon: $12m (£7.8m)

Murdered in 1980 aged 40.

The Beatle continues to earn money posthumously through sales of the band's records and other ventures such as the Beatles-themed Cirque du Soleil show Love!

8. Albert Einstein: $11m (£7.1m)

Died from natural causes in 1955 aged 76.

The German-born physicist still has a cult following with many branded products and posters.

9. Paul Walker: $10.5m (£6.8m)

Died in a car crash in 2013 aged 40.

The actor was filming Furious 7 when he was killed in the crash and his death led the film to make $1.5bn at the box office.

10. Bettie Page: $10m (£6.5m)

Died in 2008 from natural causes aged 85.

The Playboy pin-up licensed her sex appeal and it was used for clothing and underwear lines.

A Vegas show featuring a hologram of one of her striptease acts is also thought to be in the works.

11. Theodor Geisel: $9.5m (£6.1m)

Died in 1991 aged 87.

The Dr Seuss creator's books still sell in the millions every year.

The Cat In The Hat and other titles have spawned films, merchandise and theme park rides.

12. Steve McQueen: $9m (£5.8m)

Died in 1980 from complications from surgery aged 50.

Another Hollywood icon whose name and image is used for brands such as Tag Heuer and Barbour.

13. James Dean: $8.5m (£5.5m)

Died in a car crash in 1955 aged 24.

Dean is still making money from brands including Dolce and Gabbana.

Dane DeHaan and Robert Pattinson starred in a film about photographer Dennis Stock's assignment to take pictures of The Rebel Without A Cause star for Life magazine earlier this year.
