STARS including Jason Donovan and East 17 are heading to Basildon for a brand-new pop festival in 2023.

Poptasia, “the biggest pop festival Basildon has ever seen”, has revealed its line-up for the event in Gloucester Park.

On Saturday, April 29, stars including Tony Hadley, Jason Donovan, Liberty X, East 17, and S Club 7 will star in the all-new festival.

Steve Cochrane, promoter for the event, said this will be a real community event.

He said: “We are really excited to bring a show of this kind to Basildon.

“It is the first one we have done in Basildon, but we are hoping for thousands to turn out like our other events in Essex.

“We are aiming, if it is successful, to hold this event annually as not much goes on in Basildon like this, it is something they are missing.

“It is something we want to bring to Basildon, and give the community a good event, for everyone to come together.”

Those behind Poptasia, are the same as those behind Soultasia, a festival heading to Maldon in 2023.

The event is not weather depending as it will be all undercover.

They have a licence for around 5,000 people, and there will be food, bars and stalls on offer as well as the live music.

Tickets are also already on sale.

Andrew Baggott, leader of Basildon Council, felt this was something the borough was missing and really welcomed the event.

He said: “I think it is absolutely fantastic.

“I have been saying for some time that there is a potential gap in the market for us, because where is there a place to hold a festival, Gloucester Park does spring to mind as an ideal location.

“So, it is really good that somebody else has actually also spotted that opportunity.

“We wish them every success in it as of course, the more successful it is, the more likely it is to be repeated.

“When you do attract these names, it also attracts other big names down the line if it successful, and we can build momentum.

“So, it is really exciting.”
