Starving dog rescued by canal was so skinny 'every bone was poking out of his body'
A dog who was found dumped by a canal was in such a frail condition that every bone in his body could be seen sticking out of his skin.
The brown lurcher, who has been nicknamed Ollie, weighed less than two-and-a-half stone when he was rescued in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, last week.
Estimated to be around three-years-old, Ollie should be weighing roughly double that figure.
The frail dog was rushed to the vets after a man spotted him and contacted the RSPCA, who said that Ollie was lucky to be alive.
RSPCA inspector Jennie Ronksley told Metro: “He was literally a bag of bones, you could see every single bone poking out of his skin.
“It’s a miracle he was still alive to be honest. It was so cold and he was so thin that there is no way he could have survived outside in that state for long.”

She added: “I had to carry him to my van and then lift him out and carry him into the vets.
“But, when I put him down in the waiting room, he got up and made a beeline to the shelves stuffed full of bags of food. He was obviously starving.”
Ollie is now being looked after by a foster carer and has put on nearly half a stone in a week.
