'Starving and freezing' Huddersfield grandad had 'tears in his eyes' after community heroes step in to help him

A Kirklees man has been forced to reach out for help after finding himself unable to afford to eat after he lost his wife in the pandemic and his relationship with his children broke down.

The cost of living crisis continues to affect each and every one of us and sadly, sometimes, a change in circumstances can stretch people beyond their limits. One elderly Huddersfield man found himself in the devastating situation of not being able to afford his food shopping and gas this week.

Unsure where to turn the vulnerable man reach out to local community hero Tanisha Bramwell and thankfully she answered his call for aid. Thankfully her team were able to help him out by providing a weeks worth of free food and a payment for gas. She was also able to refer him for further support.

Taking to her Instagram page Tanisha penned: "This morning I’m visiting a grandfather, he lost his wife during the pandemic and his relationship with his children deteriorated.

"He’s asked for support for gas and food. Today he’s receiving a £60 payment and 1 weeks worth of food. We have also referred him to adult social care for further support. He hugged us with tears in his eyes as we left."

The post was quickly flooded with comments as the local community praised Tanisha and her team for providing the elderly man with support during his time of need.

Pat Woods penned: "Thank you Cllr Tanisha Bramwell and your team for all that you are doing", Jacquie Gardner wrote: "Thankfully this gentleman will now get some help and support." And Stacey Ann Smart chimed in with: "God bless you all such wonderful people, if the world was full of good people like you it would be a better place. Thankyou for all you do to help."

Each and every day Tanisha and her team are tending to more and more West Yorkshire residents who are living in serious financial difficulty as she continues to fight for better.

Tanisha Bramwell told Yorkshire Live: "This incident underscores the persistent and widespread nature of the crisis, with local residents facing daily challenges, many for the first time in their lives. It is imperative that we continue to advocate for enhanced support and services to address these pressing needs."
