State of Emergency Declared in Alabama After Deadly Storms Cause Widespread Damage

At least seven people were killed after tornadic storms tore through Alabama on Thursday, January 12.

Gov Kay Ivey declared a state of emergency for some of the worst-hit counties, including Autauga, Chambers, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, and Tallapoosa.

Footage taken by Natasha Black shows a funnel cloud approach her neighborhood in Deatsville, Alabama, on Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service said it was tracking reports of tornadoes and surveying damage across the region on Thursday evening.
